Mindset

I look down at the young faces before me, bright, eager eyes are fastened on me waiting with baited breath for the next words that will come out of my mouth; one little girl has her mouth hanging open, heart racing, waiting to hear what will happen to little David with the giant bearing down on him…

It’s story time in our homeschool, and my favorite part of class, a time to instill morals and the Scriptural outlook on life. The assortment of children sitting at my feet range from a feisty little 2 year-old, to a calm and reserved 13 year-old. All different walks of life are represented in the group before me, but one thing is the same about them all; they are all sponges, eager to learn, naïve and therefore an open book, waiting to be written in, little seeds carried on whatever winds blow into their life. And I like a military strategist have in my hand the raw materials to create a  much-needed revolution. Looking through those little eyes into the souls forming before me I see the power of change in the palm of my hand. All it ever took to begin a revolution, or turn the tide of history was one individual, given to his goal/ purpose, one individual to stand out, move against the flow and stand up to oppression, violence and gangsterism…and here before me, were 12!

“Like arrows in the hand of a warrior so are the children of one’s youth.”

Because, you see, when we say “we homeschool our children” we do not mean that we are bringing the mainstream education into our home, no. Rather, that we are preparing the individuals who will stand up to wickedness and oppose the status quo that rules in favor of the few.

Our children will be able to do this because they know no other way. We immerse them in what is functional, guard them from what is not, and when they are older, it will be their nature to make corrections, to meet needs, and defend those who cannot defend themselves.

“Habituate a child upon the mouth of his way, and when he is old he will never depart from it.”

So I must conclude when people say phrases like “a simple housewife” or “our girls need to aspire to a life greater than that of a mere housewife”, that there is a mis-understanding of the magnitude of the task of making a house a home, a home into a king’s palace; and nurturing and educating the eternal souls we bring into existence. Not only is that vocation completely fulfilling and satisfying, but through it we have the chance to bring about change, to bring about the genesis of the exodus from our current mentally subjugated existence, so we can return to fulfilling purpose, and living as our Creator intended.

My name is Mikhaelah Zeigler, and I am a homeschooling mom.

    1. Wow beautiful story, I particularly love the fact that these children are like an open book ready to receive anything, the honors is on us to deposit good seeds. I am also a homeschool mother of 4 and I can so relate with this story.

      1. Hi Lilian, it’s great to hear from a fellow homeschooler! We truly are stronger together, and if we educate our children with the goal of them being internally secure influencers, we can actually turn the tide of history..

  1. I love it. Very inspiring to be home of us who have chosen this path of an educator. I’ve never gotten caught up in the tag that we get as “mere housewives” or homeschoolers. Much to the contrary, it’s my position that what we do is the greatest gift we could give to humanity as we really do hold the key to the revolution. I thank you for the insight as I use to say, we held the key to our future as we pour into these little ones. But my my, how much more impactful is it when we realize we hold the match that will truly spark the fire of the revolution. The time is nigh.

  2. Wow wow wow….this is truly what we really need to practice. Whe I teach my boy about the functional ways of life, how this matrix extraordinaire is going to chew him up and spit him out later in life, guess what follows. A barrage of questions come out of his mouth in rapid fire. Indeed they are sponges eager to soak in whatever’s fed to them. Let’s do our duty in habituating them in whatever station of life we are in when we acquire and absorb this kind of knowledge that intended us to have to live and to bring forth ” sera elohim “.

  4. This is exemplary. I resonate with the words. Momshaming because of homeschooling and choosing to stay at home is quite widespread. I have to keep reminding myself that this is indeed the biggest and most beneficial beautiful calling.
